Fantasy Football 2013: Half Measure recap

This is me being laughed out of the league.  Not really, but it may as well be.  I did perform rather abysmally…so maybe I had it coming.

By the way…  Has anyone been enjoying reading my fantasy football foibles this year?  If you liked it, please comment.  If you thought it brought my blog to a grinding halt, please also tell me.  I was afraid of boring everyone with only talking about Nano or my writing endeavors a couple years back.  Now I’m afraid of boring folks with my attempt to have a facade concerning an abundance of testosterone in my system.

Since I don’t know if I was amusing or boring anyone, I may as well post an abundance of info (and an extra couple images) below.  Ready?

Fantasy Football 2013: week 17

ULUS-10200_1382511238_816

This image sums things up.  The season is over for both leagues.  What I wasn’t aware of was one league wrapped with a champion after week 16; leaving me with reporting only one game.

Even if the season ends with this post, I will still make one or two more posts.  A recap for my leagues with some humorous stuff, and maybe even an explanation of how each Football Flop team ended up with said rival.

Blame my poor scheduling, but I was paired against my rival once again.  Want to see what happened?  I did extend the game notes this week; for what it’s worth.  Read on…

The image above depicts how far away I am from being any sort of contender when it comes to any head-to-head action in either of my fantasy football leagues.

In the league I‘m exiled from grossly missed the cutoff for playoffs, I managed 115 points.  It would have been enough to defeat two of the eight playoff teams, but alas.

While I am still actively playing in my league, I am doing it mostly for my own punishment enjoyment.  I do like I can still play head-to-head while I am cut from the playoffs; which at least gives me something to post about here.  How did I do?  Not so well.  Read on…

Still in one league and still setting the lineup in the other.  With a score of 145 points even, I would have gotten the better of half of the eight playoff teams.  I’m too curious for my own good.

The other league was the answer to week ten…which I dubbed the Rivalry & Redemption series.  I lost, which proves further I paired up with the correct rival.  Last year I defeated this team to win the championship [which I still say I was incredibly lucky in doing so].  It’s only fair I am getting walloped by the team this year.  After this back and forth, I highly anticipate what could be next year.

Fantasy Football 2013: week 14

Though I now only have one league to hang by a thread contend in, I am still making an effort in both.  I even set my lineup this week in the league I missed playoffs in.

Torturous as it was, I checked to see how I would have fared.  Without being able to add/drop/trade players, I managed to moxie up 143.70 points.  This score would have beat five of the eight teams battling it out in the playoffs: which includes teams ranked 5th-8th.  Better luck next year, right?  That’s what Wrigleyville is all about.

In my other league, I stay bottomed-out as the match caused my opponent to take first place.  Coincidentally, it was the team that [undeservingly] finished last place in my league last year.

Fantasy Football 2013: week 13

ULUS-10200_1382511238_816

If the pic doesn’t depict it (and I will not explain what’s really happening in the context of that screenshot), I did not have a good week; at least when it came to my leagues.  I was in a delirium as well as a stupor for the most part this weekend: which I can thank and blame on being the end of the month…  Not just because of Thanksgiving, but the close of the Nanowrimo 2013 season – which shall be adequately covered in a separate post.

The lowest football moment was this week marking the end to my run on the All Over the Field VI league.  The playoffs will start next week, and I will not be a part.

Here’s what the commissioner of the league said as we entered week 13:

Twisted Sister (#7) vs. Half Measure (#10): The defending champ, guaranteed to have a winning record, is in great position because of overall season points (7th overall) even with a loss to make it; however, Half Measure, with a win, could break in to the top 8 through tie-breakers, only 54 points behind Twisted Sister on the season thus far…Half Measure has not made a playoff since 2010, finishing 16th each of the last two years…

I ended up in tenth place (of 16).  The top eight ascended to playoffs.  Here’s what the commish said regarding my elimination:

For a guy who took Blair Walsh in the first round, 6-7 is NOT a bad record!!!!!

Congratulations to Twisted Sister for defeating me; snapping my three-game winning streak, and making it to the playoffs.

In other news, I lost in the other league as well.  On the bright side, I wrote a whole novel [actually calling it a finished first draft] in November.  Hey now!

In one league I have a three-game winning streak.  In the other, my opponent is the one with the streak of three; earned by mowing me down.

Call me 7-10 because I had another split.  Victory in the big league but a narrow loss in my own.  The bigger bummer of it all was the fact Tacklin’ Dummies and Flippy Flop were the two highest-scoring teams this week in my league: meaning I would have beat anyone else had I been matched differently this week.  Once more, I suppose it proves I am not a commissioner who works for personal gain.

Why is the image so uplifting?  Due to the fact I won in both my leagues this week.  I should make a speech but the image says it all.

To top it off, it was Rivalry Week in my league [Football Flop] – which I dubbed the Rivalry & Redemption series.  I created a “rival” for each team in my league: some for better reasons than others, but a reason nonetheless.

Why have one week of rivals where the bragging rights last all year long?  The idea is to have rematches the same season…to either set things right or prove the point. Bragging rights could still be had, but with harder work.

I guess that proves I had a slight edge over my rival: making a truly fascinating start of the rivalry; and my overall two-league win.

For fairness sake, I will remind the fact I lost to AZ Devils the week prior by less than ten points…but that was not rivalry week.

That’s me again: taking a pounding.  I lost both matches this week.  The saddest note is how I could have won in one of my leagues had I played any other opponent; since our match ended up as the two highest-scoring teams.  It will also be an instant rematch, since week ten is rivalry week in my league.

Life’s been keeping my entirely too occupied; which I’ll post about soon enough (for those who don’t know why I live for November).

What’s interesting about this recap?  The same team I lost to was the same team I defeated this.  Talk about something zany.

All the weeks shall be added in the order they should have been…before I make my overdue announcement.  Have some patience with me…

I have a certain duality this season: it’s not winning or losing.  It’s more give and take.  This week I defeated a team; unseating it from first place.  On the other league, I was soundly defeated – propelling the opponent into first place.

All the meat and gristle is below.
